An Istow Makeover
Once a tired bungalow with an overgrown cottage garden, this property has been completely reimagined into a modern, contemporary outdoor space designed for relaxation and gentle pottering. Strong architectural lines, layered planting, and carefully chosen materials connect the new terrace, water features, and garden rooms into a coherent flow of spaces relating strongly to the new house. Spaces were assigned for sitting and relaxing in sun and shade with a lower utility area screened at the far end for storage and vegetable growing.
The design balances structure and softness — combining crisp slate paving, rendered and stone retaining walls, and glass balustrades with textural grasses, seasonal perennials, and sculptural shrubs softening the structured layout.
The result is a tranquil, low-maintenance garden that feels both refined and welcoming, perfectly complementing the home’s coastal modern aesthetic
